EMPORIO ARMANI AR60031 LUIGI UNISEX'S WATCH
The first timepiece on our list is certainly one of the more elegant one of the lot. Featuring a single tone rose-gold case, with thin elegant lugs and a fully polished surface. The design is of course, of the simple formal dress watches of the early days of watch making. The dial is where our touch of Italian flair comes into play. On paper it sounds pretty standard, silvered sunray dial with slim perforated indexes and equally rose gold hands as well. Until you notice the neatly cut slots going along the center mass of the dial revealing the iconic and emblematic Emporio Armani eagle logo. While a massive logo shaped like an eagle may sound ostentatious to some, it actually really isn’t. It contrasts nicely with the otherwise muted design of the watch and adds a nice refined touch of panache to it. The watch is powered by a workhorse Seagull automatic caliber as well, with a nicely decorated custom rose gold custom rotor for that final touch of stylish detailing. All in all, the AR60031 Luigi makes for a compelling choice if you’re looking for a dress watch with a bit more substance and style.

This rather striking piece from Emporio Armani serves as a reminder that creativity and style really does go a long way to why some of us still wear a traditional wrist watch in this day and age. With an otherwise conventional rounded case shape and simple swooping lugs, its certainly not a brash or particularly ostentatious watch. But it is the dial that really makes this piece truly special. Featuring a pair of rotating discs displaying the subsidiary seconds and 24 hours, paired with bold semi skeletonized hands for the hours and minutes attached beneath a blue ring. Telling the time is an otherwise simple affair but at first glance, it really doesn’t seem so. And that’s exactly why we love this piece, it houses a simple traditional and reliable Miyota automatic movement, but for a moment, at first glance it almost looks magical in the way you’re meant to tell the time And, don’t worry, it’s not one of those ‘you’re kidding yourself moments’ because there’s still plenty of details that this watch offers that really sets it apart too (besides the already unconventional ringed ‘handset’). The repeating diamond like pattern on the inner ring of the dial that sectors into a nice deep blue grained pattern along the edges really adds more depth to the already 3-dimensional nature of this watch’s aesthetics. All in all, if you’re looking for a striking and reliable every day dress watch that really doesn’t look like anything else out there, it’s certainly hard to do better than the AR60011.

The next watch on the list is a dress chronograph, and damn, is it a properly beautiful one. Featuring soldered lugs on a pocket watch style case, paired with a stunning icy blue sunburst dial and a bi-compax sub dial layout, it’s a proper modern Italian take on a vintage dress chronograph. With the simple slim case, unobtrusive crown and piston style pushers and of course, the soldered lugs it is as simple as simple can be when it comes to chronograph case designs. The dial is really where the beauty of this watch truly shines, with simple sub-dials for the chronograph and the 24-hour indicators, applied indexes and a slim minute chapter ring lining the periphery of the dial, it sounds like the perfect recipe for a nice dress chronograph. But unless you’ve been reading this article with your eyes closed, you would’ve noticed that previously mentioned dial in a gorgeous shimmering icy sunburst blue. And all of this is attached to a Milanese mesh stainless steel strap for that final touch of vintage charm. All of these little design details when put together truly creates a beautifully elegant dress watch that subtly exudes that flair of Italian style which we love so much.

The next watch in our list and probably the most elegant; the Classic AR1717 is certainly the dressiest of the lot. Coming in at a svelte 41mm, the watch sits nicely on the wrist and thanks to the quartz movement powering it, is very, very slim too, easily disappearing under a cuff. Matching the modern and elegant case design with a muted time only dial gives the watch all the flair and subtlety it needs to stand out from the crowd. The dial is the reason why it ended up on our list though, with applied indexes and of course, a stunning pale bronze-ish sunburst guilloche pattern radiating upwards from six O’clock towards the top of the dial. It truly accentuates the beauty of Italian style, turning an otherwise traditional and muted design into something that is striking yet still elegant. The grey alligator textured calf leather strap complements the watch nicely and will sit happily on your wrist whether you’re rocking it with a Valentino suit or casually with a pair of denim and a T-shirt. You’ll be hard pressed to find another watch in this price range that is as beautiful and well executed as the Classic AR1717.

The Emporio Armani AR60028 is a prime example of the saying; while less may be more, more is still more. It is a relatively simple and conventional 2 hander with a subsidiary second hand and a 24-hour indicator as well. So far so simple (relatively), but there’s a catch, the dial is almost completely open, showcasing the innards of the automatic movement powering it. The watch is in a blackout vintage pocket watch style case with soldered lugs, along with a matching black dial periphery and strap as well. So, its black on black on black, very cool indeed. Despite the very dark theme of the overall design, legibility isn’t compromised thanks in part to the contrasting white lume filled hands against the intricate dial and of course, the white applied baton markers as well. The watch features a trialed and tested seagull automatic caliber that is very nicely decorated too which gives a nice flair to the otherwise simple watch. If a stunning skeleton mechanical dress watch is what you’re looking for, the AR60028 should be high on your list of considerations.

We can’t have a list of the most stylish watches a man can get without looking at a square shaped watch, can we? Though technically a rectangle, the ‘square’ watch design was popularized and defined since 1917 by none other than the Cartier Tank. It is an icon in watch design and high-fashion, amongst the nobility of old as well as those who still want to feel just a bit more regal to this day. And owning one personally (The more masculine MC version), it is an absolute joy to have. If you’re looking for a square shaped watch but prefer a cleaner yet equally smart dial, then the AR11075 is certainly for you. Cased in a stainless-steel rose-gold PVD case, and measuring in at a dressy 38mm in diameter. Paired with a nicely matching black alligator style leather strap, the watch is an elegantly masculine timepiece with some bold and distinct touches from the brand sprinkled around. The shape of the case, for one is worth noting too, it’s even more of a square than my Cartier is and that symmetry really makes this otherwise relatively small watch stand out nicely on the wrist. All in all, if you’re looking for a timeless, design and don’t want to contribute to the ocean of round watches around, then the AR11075 is undoubtedly the watch for you.

EMPORIO ARMANI CHRONOGRAPH BLACK STAINLESS STEEL AR1970 LEATHER STRAP MEN'S WATCH
For the last watch on the list, we have possibly one of the most elegant chronographs today; The AR1970. Like the AR11288 we’ve covered previously, it’s a dress chronograph, but unlike the AR11288, this one has a more conventional triple register layout. The watch features a stark glossy black dial, with 3 sub dials for the chronograph and 24-hour indicator, skinny baton hands and equally skinny applied markers as well. The elegantly simple and stealthy matte black PVD case with slim lugs and black toned chronograph pushers and crown once again adds a subtle hint of Italian style to the relatively simple timepiece. And of course, attached to it is a lovely vintage style leather strap that really completes the overall aesthetics that the watch is going for. It is this sort of subtle yet effective styling cues that the Italians are so well known for in their fashion that really differentiates them from others, and the same can be found in this beautiful dress chronograph too.
