MASERATI POTENZA R8821108026 AUTOMATIC WATCH
Certainly, one of the boldest and most recognizable designs in the Maserati line-up of watches, the Potenza is the watch you’ll think of when someone mentions Maserati watches after you’ve seen it. Featuring a rounded, angular case with angled lugs and integrated straps, the watch certainly harks back to the 70s sports-watches like the Royal Oak or the Nautilus. But with a sense of Italian style, the design is much bolder than its Swiss counterparts. We can’t have a list featuring Italian watches without having at least a simple elegant three-handed dress watch, now can we? And here it is, the Epoca in a rose gold case and a matching rose gold bracelet too. First off, the dial is beautifully executed with applied golden indexes and roman numerals along the periphery and the iconic trident logo at 12 O’clock, matching golden lance shaped hands, a simple sub-seconds dial and of course that stunning sun-ray charcoal grey dial as well. The case is a simple Italian affair as well, sculpted in a simple traditional rounded design with no sharp angles, but with extended swooping lugs to complete the elegant look of the watch. Matching the elegant case is an equally elegant rose gold Milanese mesh bracelet that gives it a much dressier yet vintage feel. The watch is powered by a Japanese quartz caliber too ensuring smooth and reliable performance throughout its lifetime. MASERATI RICORDO R8821133001 MEN'S AUTOMATIC WATCH
The Maserati Ricordo Automatic is a prime example of the term; less is more. It is a simple, elegant three hander with slim markers lining the periphery of the dial and slim matching baton hands as well. So far so simple, but there’s a catch, the watch features a lovely open-heart showcasing the escapement of the automatic movement powering it between 7 O’clock and 8 O’clock. The watch is fitted with an elegant and skinny brushed black stainless-steel case, with a matching black dial and strap as well. So, it's black on black on black, very cool indeed. Despite the very dark theme of the overall design, legibility isn’t compromised thanks in part to the contrasting black polished hands against the clean matte black dial. The watch features a trialled and tested seagull automatic caliber that is very nicely decorated too which gives a nice flair to the otherwise simple watch. If a 3 handed mechanical dress watch is what you’re looking for, the Ricordo Automatic should be high on your list of considerations.

The second Potenza on our list is the more elegant one of the lot. Featuring a two-tone case in gold and silver, this change in colour gives the bold design a much dressier feel. And what we’ve ended up with is probably one of the best and most iconic looking dress chronographs in the market at this price range. Replacing the roman numerals with baton markers (which was a good call, making the dial less cluttered), and leaving space for 3 simple chronograph and 24-hour indicator sub-dials, the Epoca is a properly handsome timepiece. If you’re looking for a classic, simple chronograph watch, then the Epoca chronograph is hard to beat.

If the name didn’t already give away the potential design of this watch then we might need to school you on catching verbal cues, but that’s for another time. The Maserati Elegenza chronograph is, surprise, surprise a properly elegant looking timepiece. With a simple slim case, small crowns and pushers and unobtrusive lugs, it is as simple as simple can be when it comes to chronograph case designs. The dial is really where the beauty of this watch truly shines, with simple sub-dials for the chronograph and the 24-hour indicators, applied indexes and a minute chapter ring lining the periphery of the dial, it sounds like the perfect recipe for a nice dress chronograph. But unless you’ve been reading this article with your eyes closed, you would’ve noticed that the dial is in a gorgeous shimmering sunburst blue that almost fades into an ombre towards 6 O’clock. All of this little design details when put together truly creates a beautifully elegant dress watch that subtly exudes the flair of Italian style that we love so much.

MASERATI POTENZA ANALOG QUARTZ R8851108015 MEN'S WATCH
The last of the Potenza series in our list and probably the most elegant, the Potenza R8851108015 quartz is the dressiest of the bunch (of Potenzas). Coming in at 42mm, the watch sits nicely on the wrist and thanks to the quartz movement powering it, is a relatively slim watch too, easily disappearing under a cuff. Matching the iconic and unique case design with a muted time only dial gives the watch all the flair and subtlety it needs to stand out from the crowd. The dial is finished in a tapisserie pattern, with applied indexes and of course, the whopping great trident logo dominating the center. It sounds ostentatious, but it isn’t. And that’s the beauty of Italian style, making something that should be flashy and ostentatious into something that is tasteful and overall, well put together, just like their suits. The blue alligator textured calf leather strap complements the watch nicely and will sit happily on your wrist whether you’re rocking it with a Valentino suit or casually with a pair of denim and a T-shirt. You’ll be hard pressed to find another watch in this price range that is as striking and well built than the Potenza quartz.

MASERATI TRADIZIONE CHRONOGRAPH R8871625001 MEN'S WATCH
The Maserati Tradizione Chronograph is a men’s dress chronograph that features a gorgeous matte chocolate brown dial, matching brown leather straps and a gold PVD stainless steel case too. The watch features a relatively simple and elegant case coming in at 42mm in diameter and the dial, though crowded, is still highly legible and distinct as well. With 2 subdials for the chronograph and another for the 24-hour indicator, along with a date window, it certainly sounds like there’s a lot going on, on the dial making it seem crowded and messy. But it is executed very nicely by Maserati, with their flair for Italian style, they’ve turned a complicated timepiece into something that is subtle and elegant without making it look dull. Power comes from a reliable Seiko quartz VR3G, ensuring a smooth and generally worry-free experience with the watch. If you’re looking for a gold, reasonably priced dress watch that stands out, you’ll certainly get one with the Tradizione.

MASERATI RICORDO R8871625004 MEN'S WATCHES
For the last watch on the list we have possibly one of my favourite dress watches we’ve looked at today; The Maserati Ricordo. Like the Tradizione we’ve covered previously, it’s a dress chronograph, but unlike the Tradizione, this one has a more conventional sub dial layout. The watch features a stark glossy black dial, with 3 sub dials for the chronograph and 24-hour indicator (with a flash of red on the ‘24’ for an added pop of colour), skeletonized baton hands and skinny applied markers and numerals as well. I’m not the biggest fan of Arabic numerals on watches, or rather I’m very picky with the fonts used on Arabic numerals and how they add on to the personality of the watch. The numerals here are executed very nicely and add a sense of flair to the watch (that the Italians are so well known for) giving it a very unique look and personality. The elegantly simple rose-gold case with swooping lugs and black toned chronograph pushers once again adds a subtle hint of Italian style to the relatively simple timepiece. It is this sort of subtle yet effective styling cues that the Italians are so well known for in their fashion that really differentiates them from others, and the same can be found in the Ricordo too.
